 Herman Terryn is Full Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) Belgium. Currently he is the head of department of Materials and Chemistry. He focuses his research on corrosion and protection of petals within the Research Group Electrochemical and Surface Engineering (SURF) at VUB. (www.vub.ac.be/SURF). He is also part time Professor Corrosion at TU-Delft. He published 435 web of science papers, h-factor 40, and supervised 50 Ph.D's. He was invited as plenary & keynote speaker at important international conferences: Gordon Conference, ECASIA, EUROCORR, ISE, Electrochemical Society Meetings, Passivity Meeting, Corrosion NACE, EMCR, ASST, Metallurgy, Alusil, ESTAL. He is a Methusalem Grant holder 7 year (2011-2023) 'Design and Prediction of Nanostructured Metal Surfaces' (NANOMET) with a budget of 7M Euro. He was the Winner of the Eu-Award European Federation of Corrosion 2014, Pisa, Italy, and the Corrosion H.H. Uhlig Award Electrochemical Society in 2017, Washington, USA. In 2016 he was honored with the Franqcui Chair "Durability of materials" 2016 at University of Antwerp. He is also honorary Professor at USTB, Beijing, China.
